Plot Outline: A conservative Midwest businessman ventures into the sordid underworld of pornography in California to look for his runaway teenage daughter whom is making porno films in the porno pits of Los Angeles.
Plot: Jake Van Dorn is businessman from American heartland who shares strong Calvinist convictions with most of his countrymen. His teenage daughter is missing from the trip in L.A. and Van Dorn hires private investigator. Result of the investigation is his daughter being spotted in cheap X-rated movie. Van Dorn decides to bring her back personally and during the quest he becomes familiar with the pornographic underworld.

Scott only agreed to come out after forcing Schrader to promise that he would never direct again (obviously, Schrader went back on his promise).
• Paul Schrader originally had Scotts character discover that his daughter was been killed in a totally unrelated car crash, at which point he simply goes back home. He changed it to Scott finding her against his better judgment.
