Plot Outline: Film version of the musical stage play, presenting the last few weeks of Christs life, told in an anachronistic manner.
Plot: Based on a concept album project written by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, and the subsequent long-running Broadway performance, this film tells the story of the final 6 days in the life of Jesus Christ through the troubled eyes of Judas Iscariot. Too often mis-labeled a musical, this film is a “rock opera.” There are no spoken lines, everything is sung.

• Norman Jewisons previous project had been the film version of the Broadway hit Fiddler on the Roof (1971) in which he had cast Israeli actor Topol in the role of Tevye, to the bitter disappointment of Broadways Tevye, Zero Mostel. When Jewison wanted to cast Mostels son Joshua as Herod in this movie Mostel snapped, “Tell him to get Topols son!”
• Norman Jewison based the “Last Supper” tableau on the famous painting by Leonardo Da Vinci, which is located on a wall of the refectory of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, Italy. In doing so, he managed to give the dancers playing the Apostles specific character names. The only flaw is, the singer who plays “Peter”, Paul Thomas, is seated in the wrong place. He is on the end, in the position Da Vinci painted “Bartholomew”. In the painting, “Peter” is believed to be the apostle whispering to “John”, the apostle seated immediately to Jesus right, our left.

Plot Outline: A rock musical version of the Passion Play seen from the point of view of Judas.
Plot: The Passion of Jesus Christ as seen through the eyes of Judas. This popular rock musical is based on the 1996 London/2000 Broadway revivals of the show, directed by Gale Edwards. Re-orchestrated and set to modern times, it is not the Superstar of the 70s but rather one for the 21st Century.
